Contraiindication:
1. Hypersensitivity to the drug or any ingredients of it
2. Osteomalacia
3. Significant lytic lesions or lytic lesions involving crucial bones
Special Precaution:
1. Peptic ulcer
2. Enterocolitis
3. Renal impairment
4. Fracture
5. Adequate intake of calcium and Vit D and good nutrition status is required during etidronate therapy. Re-treatment should be done after 3 months drug free interval. Continuous administration of medication of periods greater than 6 months in Paget`s disease increases the risk of fracture.
Interaction:
Calcium supplements, antacids: Absorption of etidronate decreased.
Servings:
Oral-
Adult-
Paget`s disease:5 mg/kg body weight/day not to exceed six months
Ossification:20mg/kg/day for 2 weeks and then 10mg/kg/day for 10 weeks
Hypercalcemia: 7.5 mg/kg/day for 3 to 7 days, treatment repeated 2nd course of treatment after 7 days
